At the recommendation of RonBurgundy, we visited this well-run winery. I had tasted a number of wines from the Palisade region and was largely unimpressed, so my expectations were not high. We were met by owner/manager Theresa High and joined shortly by Theresa's husband, owner Scott High. We toured the extensive property and then tasted the following wines:

2011 Cabernet Franc, Katie's Vineyard: Contains 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23 year old vines, beautiful nose of spice, pepper, and crushed berries, balanced with copious moderately soft tannins and dark fruit, needs time, 87-89

2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Grand Valley, Theresa's Vineyard: Contains 5% Cabernet Franc, spicy fruit pie nose, excellent balance and dark berry flavors, should age beautifully, 88-91+

Theresa and Scott could not possibly have been more hospitable. They are justly proud of their wines, which, based on my experience, are the class of the region. Their Cabernet Franc is better than any I've tasted from Long Island or Canada. Their Cabernet Sauvignon was a smooth wine with the backbone to age for quite a while. It'd be very interesting to slip these into a blind tasting at an offline.

In addition to the wines, the Highs produce the finest peaches I have ever tasted. Their peach trees are meticulouly pruned to produce large sweet fruit. If you are fortunate to visit the winery, don't miss out on the peaches.
